Introduction of Al-Khair University (AJ&K)
Al-Khair University was established in 1994, under an act number XXVIII of the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The Main objective for the establishment of the University in the Private Sector was to supplement the Public Sector Education, by disseminating professional, scientific and technological education in the Country. With a view, however, to keep pace with changing scenario of education globally, the main focus is in the field of Marketing, Banking & Finance, Information Technology and Computer Oriented courses. Al- Khair University has progressive and innovative outlook and lays stress on the three functions of higher education namely teaching, Research and Service. Being a manifestation of unique perceptions these institutions envisages excellence in academic, scientific and professional spheres. Al-Khair University makes every possible Endeavour to realize the goal of education being the basic right of an individual. |
Administration
The University is governed by Al-Khair University Azad Jammu and Kashmir Act, 1994. The Honorable President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir is the Chancellor of the University.
The Pro-Chancellor is the chief executive of the University.
The Rector is the executive head of the University and performs various functions for the academic and administrative improvement of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor is the Principal academic and administrative officer of the University responsible for proper implementation of the Act and execution of policies and programs of the university.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor acts in absence of the Vice-Chancellor and exercises all powers vested in him.
The Director is the head of the institution/Main Campus of the University.

Presently the following four faculties are functioning
The institution is deeply dedicated to create intellectually conducive academic environment and attract best possible for its faculty
It is consecrated to develop the potential talents of those young candidates who have burning desire to achieve professional excellence. The university feels confident to produce graduates of high caliber, possessing conceptual grasp of their fields of specialization. These scholars will stand- out among others by their professional competence, technical and managerial skills, ethical standards, analytical and practical approaches to problem solving. Thus, they would contribute positively towards the society and meet the requirements of the developing countries.
Inspired by such a national commitment, the University has initiated various projects, which include establishment and furnishing of library, IT labs, workshops, and data processing center, computer labs and other allied facilities required for the institution. For this purpose provisions were made during construction of its own building at Bhimber (AJ&K) and now with the blessing of Allah Almighty all such necessary facilities are available at the Main Campus (Bhimber) of the University and the available facilities will be further augmented with consistent efforts and dedication of the faculty members. New facilities such as Hostel and Transport are added continuously to enhance the scope and capabilities of the Institution.
For the benefits of students, the system of education adopted is not only for imparting of knowledge to the students but it stimulates their creative and constructive potentialities.

The University ensures high quality of education through providing all relevant physical and human infrastructures together with the requisite facilities of the modern knowledge and by appointing highly trained faculty for effectively delivering the objectives of the curricula. The explosion of knowledge in the fields of science and technology are synchronized and promoted within the frame-work of ethical and social values demanded by our religious and cultural traditions.

ACT
To provide for the establishment of Al-Khair University in Azad Jammu and Kashmir WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the establishment of the Al-Khair University in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and for matters ancillary thereto;
It is hereby enacted as follows:-
Short title, extent and commencement:-
This Act may be called the Al-Khair University, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Act, 1994.
It extends to the whole of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
It shall come into force at once.
Institutional Strengthening for Quality Education
It would be pertinent to mention here that there has been a change at the top management of Al-Khair University (AJK). The present administration took control in mid 2000. The new management has taken a number of steps for the improvement of affairs of the University, with a view to imparting purposeful and quality education to the student that has enhanced the prestige of the University. Now, the President of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir is the Chancellor of the University. It has on its Board of Governors eminent educationists and highly qualified professionals.
A number of reformatory measures have been taken to improve the standards which inter-alia includes:-
Efficient System of Monitoring
An efficient system of monitoring and checking of these institutions has been introduced to ensure high academic standards. As a result of detailed assessment of standard of infrastructure, academic facilities by qualified educationists, affiliation of 130 colleges/institutions has been withdrawn. The institutions desiring affiliation are being subjected to scrutiny under the system of monitoring and inspection.
Functioning Affiliated Colleges/Institutions
43 colleges/institutions are effectively functioning which were found to be complying with the required standard and parameters. The Syllabi have been revised by a Committee comprising senior educationists to bring it in conformity with the subjects / disciplines commonly in vague in well-known universities.
Streamlined Registration and Examination Procedure
The registration procedure and Examination system have been streamlined providing for required sanctity of the Degrees and certificates. A Regular transparent system of examinations has been instituted. A Liaison Office, managed by relevant professionals has been established at Lahore to supplement and assist the examination branch of the University for its smooth functioning in conducting and coordinating the conduct of various examinations.
Secured Format of Degree
The format of the degrees has been replaced and arrangements made for Printing of the degrees from Security Printing Press of the Pakistan. The degrees are now issued under the signatures of the Chancellor.
A new format of DMC/ Transcript has been adopted. The certificates are issued under the signatures of the Deputy Controller of Examinations.
Arrangements have been made for holding of examinations of first and last semesters under the supervision of the University.
